I finished my screencast script for Google Scholar. I saved the survey spreadsheet to the PC Desktop. That is about all, see you all next week.

screen/videocasts

I know everyone has been working on their screen/videocasts over the past few weeks. The goal is to have everyone complete one by the time we go to the holidays. If you need something from me – a look at your script, time away from the desk to record in peace, etc – just let me know. I will bring in my personal laptop so you can use that for PC screencasts, since the machine at the front stutters and has no easy-access headset inputs.

Finals week and reservations

Winding down – or up? – to Christmas, I know some of you are very busy trying to finish projects and get ready for exams. If you need to take any time off for school work, just let me know and we’ll sort it out. You have to plan ahead though – I need to know in advance if you can’t make it for a shift.

I will be working on a schedule for spring semester next week. If you don’t already have your class schedule input to Google Calendar, please do so right away. If you’re still working on your schedule, let me know when you think you might be done. ALSO, please let me know if you have any special requests that you would like me to accommodate – no mornings, you like mid-day, whatever. I can’t promise I can fit them all in, but I can try.

Finally, with finals week coming and reservations starting to fly in, we have to be extra mindful about reservations. Make sure you check the book every morning to ensure that we haven’t missed a 3-day+ reservation and that everyone who is expecting a computer will get one. Please continue to cross out the reservations as they are picked up so we know if anyone is abusing the system.

THANKS,
Tania

PS If anyone has any ideas about what I should make for the Xmas party, let me know. I’m stuck.

Dec 1, 4-8pm

Not a whole lot going on. I helped a student get her internet operating. She downloaded an update and the internet stopped working so I restored her system and it worked.

December 1, 12:00-5:00

Today a young lady came in with a flash drive and had a video on it she wanted to burn to a DVD. At first we couldn’t find the right file and burned a different one to the DVD. Then because it was burning from a flash drive the One Step DVD option wouldn’t work. We figured out how to do it manually, and Brittney created a new tech help form on how to do that. If this ever comes up again, check that. There are a few posts from Tania and some regular shift reports that would be beneficial to read. Doug helped someone convert Microsoft Office so that he could open files from Microsoft Office 2007. Other than that, we spent the shift working on screencasts. Have a good night!

Important information about your W-2

I got an email with this info…being Canadian, I only partially understand what it’s talking about:

The State of Kansas soon will be preparing to mail 2009 W-2 Forms to all employees, including student employees of Fort Hays State University. Student employee W-2 Forms will be mailed to students’ local address as listed on their TigerTracks account. W-2 Forms are not forwarded by the postal service. In order for the student employees’ W-2 Forms to reach them correctly, be sure to remind them to have their local address on their TigerTracks account up to date before December 12, 2009. The local address is on the left-hand side under Student Contact Information.

For assistance with TigerTracks accounts, please contact the CTC HelpDesk or view the TigerTracks Login Information Web page at http://www.fhsu.edu/ctc/helpdesk/tigertracks_info.shtml

Supervisor, Peer and Self-evaluations

As we wind down the fall term, there are a few administrative tasks to be completed.

First is congratulating yourselves on a GREAT term of TLC service. I’ve been uniformly impressed with the level of effort, cooperation, and friendliness that everyone has exhibited in the last three months.

Next is a round of evaluations. I will be putting together a survey on your satisfaction with your work at the Learning Commons and my role as your supervisor. You will each be asked to complete it anonymously. Please be honest! I will be using the information you provide to make improvements during the spring term. I will also be creating an evaluation form for you to assess your own performance and that of your peers.

Finally, I will be sitting down with each of you to review the past few months, allowing each of us to give the other feedback on strong points and areas to improve, as well as suggestions for the TLC as a whole. I will try to schedule these during your regular shifts.

On to Spring!
